Status: Initial resource, metallurgical testwork underway
Aura commenced exploration on the Reguibat Craton in Northern Mauritania in 2007 and currently holds permits covering approximately 8400km². Aura was attracted to the Reguibat region by the existence of very strong uranium radiometric anomalies in airborne geophysical data. Aura has eight wholly owned permits and two permits in joint venture with Ghazal Minerals Limited where Aura is earning 70%.
Recent drilling completed between November 2010 and February 2011 covered all of Aura’s wholly owned permits and its joint venture permits. Aura drilled 2022 holes into the Reguibat Project in 2011, in addition to the 392 holes completed in January 2010. Drilling confirmed the presence of widespread calcrete uranium mineralisation.
In July 2011, Aura established its first high-grade JORC inferred resource for the Reguibat project. The resource of 50.2 million pounds at 330 ppm U3O8 was based on a cut-off grade of 100 ppm U3O8. Results confirmed the extensive nature of the calcrete uranium mineralisation. The project contains one of the world’s larger calcrete uranium resources, and results confirm the area is an emerging uranium province. There is potential for a substantial increase to the resource in the future.
Aura’s activities to date have focussed on uranium in calcrete mineralisation; however the area also has excellent potential for vein style uranium mineralisation in the bedrock. This style has been demonstrated by a competitor company which is currently defining a resource in bedrock veins in the district at Bir En Nar. This style of mineralisation is yet to be tested on Aura’s tenements.
